Nomination notes and tips.

When considering your nomination you need to think about the; who, what, why, when, where and how?

Who are you nominating? A person, group or business.

What do they do that you consider values recognition? Examples will support the nomination.

Why do they stand out to you, compared to anyone else’s contributions in the community?

When did they undertake these activities; are they recent, completed, ongoing etc...

Where do they do what they do? is it in North Kesteven?

How have they made a difference? What is the impact of what they do and how is yours or your community’s life better for it? Is there a lasting legacy or improved situation for others?

Where you can, quantify:

  • how many people benefit, attend or volunteer;

  • how many are involved;

  • how much change have they made – eg, for climate action, how much carbon saved or the scale of greenhouse gas reduction, numbers of PV panels installed, miles reduced etc 

  • is there a cumulative effect – eg, by inspiring ten others to coach football 100 children can now participate, or by teaching lifesaving skills or raising charitable funds etc

  • the scale of impact, or positive change

Please note: If the person carries out these services/activities as part of their paid employment, they will not meet the shortlisting criteria, but if you feel that their contributions go above and beyond what they are paid to do your nomination must demonstrate this.

Which category is right for your nomination?

Young Achiever A young person aged 19 or under who has shown amazing bravery or excelled in any way, perhaps under adversity, through leadership or in pioneering a community project.

Community Business A company or sole-trader whose business initiatives and outlook makes a difference to their local communities.

Community Spirit An individual or group who gives outstanding personal service to the community through hard work, dedication and commitment.

Contribution to the Arts & Culture An individual or group whose actions have made a positive impact on the cultural richness of the District.

Contribution to a Better Environment An individual, group, club or business whose actions have a positive impact on the environment, locally or in a broader way.

Contribution to Climate Action An individual, group, school, club or business whose actions contribute positively towards a carbon-neutral future, reduced energy use or greater environmental resilience.

Contribution to Community Safety A group, school, club, business or individual whose actions have a positive impact on community safety locally, helping to raise awareness and reduce crime in our communities.

Contribution to Health & Wellbeing An individual or group that has contributed to the wellbeing of others or made positive healthy lifestyle changes – in physical or psychological - for themselves or others.

Contribution to Sport A group, club, business or individual whose actions have a positive impact on sports and physical activity locally.

Good Neighbour Someone who has gone over and above for their neighbours; generally being someone the neighbourhood couldn’t do without.

Longstanding Contribution An individual who has contributed a huge amount of their time and effort to a single charity, club, group or organisation.


Please note :

  • All activities and expressions of community focus should be undertaken within and for the benefit of North Kesteven communities. Nominees do not have to live in the District, but they must operate locally and undertake their activities in support of or for the enhancement of District individuals or communities. This needs to be demonstrated in your submission.

  • Nominees should undertake their activities in a voluntary capacity or in some way above and beyond the requirement of their paid employment – through personal initiative, endeavour or pioneering zeal. If the person carries out these services/activities as part of their paid employment, they will not meet the shortlisting criteria, but if you feel that their contributions do go above and beyond what they are paid to do your nomination must demonstrate this.

  • The awards look to recognise and celebrate tireless, selfless and voluntary community-minded contributions. For businesses these must extend beyond what could be considered ‘expected business practice’ by reaching further than the bottom-line and showing an investment of time, effort or resource into enhanced community wellbeing, cohesion or resilience. it’s all about a show of community consideration.

  • Nominations can be made in as many categories as you think are relevant – it is in your interests to tailor them to each category as appropriate. The administrators of the awards will exercise discretion in allocating and re-allocating nominations across the categories where it is felt they sit best, but you are encouraged to consider this to best advantage your nominee. 

  • Self-nomination is permitted, but as the awards are founded in the spirt of community-based thanks and appreciation, they will be enhanced where they are made by a grateful recipient, customer or community representative such as a parish council; on behalf of an individual, group or business. Multiple nominations are indicative of a greater strength of feeling.

  • A judging panel – drawn from representatives of the award sponsors, the District Council and at times third-party community agencies – will determine the nominations based solely on the descriptions given in the written nomination. It is therefore in yours and your nominee’s interests to give as much information as you are able to, being as factual and specific as you can, providing links to any online supporting evidence and emailing any additional attachments that are relevant to champions@n-kesteven.gov.uk
